Employees at NGL present $6,000 donation to WAGS for service dogs

Madison, Wis. - Employees at the National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL) downtown office received a special treat during their workday – a visit from three service dogs and their trainers from Wisconsin Academy for Graduate Service Dogs (WAGS). Employees were able to pet service dogs, Ian, Winnie and Zac, while learning more about the dogs' skills and the organization.

WAGS promotes functional independence and improved quality of life for people with physical disabilities through partnerships with highly-skilled service dogs. The dogs assist individuals who have limited physical mobility and are trained to help, including push door buttons, open a refrigerator door, flip a light switch and retrieve items.

During the visit, NGL presented Aaron Backer, Executive Director of WAGS with a $6,000 donation to aid in the training of service dogs for those in need of physical assistance.

"NGL believes in giving back and supporting organizations that improve lives for people in our community. Service dogs are an incredibly important companion for the people who rely on them. It takes two years to raise and train a WAGS dog. NGL's donation will help to provide the necessary resources, including veterinary care, dog food and training supplies needed for the service dogs," said Elizabeth Kirchstein, NGL corporate giving administrator.

WAGS Executive Director Aaron Backer said, "It makes such a tremendous difference when a company like NGL not only provides a targeted gift, but also fully believes in the amazing resource a service dog is for a person with a disability. It costs roughly $12,000 for WAGS to train and place one service dog and positively change a person's life, so we are very grateful for this investment."
