NGL donates $50,000 for Operation Fresh Start renovation

National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL) is pleased to announce its donation of $50,000 in support of the renovation of Operation Fresh Start’s (OFS) new building located at 2670 Milwaukee Street.

Operation Fresh Start is a nonprofit that serves disconnected young people ages 16 to 24. Since 1970 OFS has provided comprehensive employment and training services to more than 8,000 youth in Dane County. Now located in its new home, OFS will be able to reach between 400-500 youth each year – nearly doubling its impact.

“We have supported Operation Fresh Start for about 10 years. OFS makes a difference in the lives of youth and creates a positive impact on our community. Providing educational and training resources to at-risk youth helps to reduce the cost and resources needed for housing, criminal justice and social services in the long run. The renovated building will offer countless opportunities and allow youth and young adults to thrive and succeed,” shared Elizabeth Kirchstein, Director of Corporate Giving at NGL.

Renovating the former church took nearly two years because OFS and its youth completed most of the construction project. There were multiple benefits to taking on the project because it created a valuable learning experience and offered the participants a sense of pride and accomplishment to see their hard work come to fruition.

“It was an educational process as much as it was to get the job done. They built something meaningful and have the opportunity to take pride in it,” said Gregory Markle, Executive Director at Operation Fresh Start.
