69,000 meals donated by NGL to fight hunger

Donations for Share Your Holidays campaign benefits Second Harvest Foodbank

NGL proudly supported the 22nd annual NBC15 Share Your Holidays to eliminate hunger campaign to benefit Second Harvest Foodbank of Wisconsin. This year, the food/fund drive campaign had a goal to raise 3.86 million meals. Since its inception in 1996, southwestern Wisconsin’s largest food/fund drive campaign has raised more than 36 million meals.

NGL and its employees participated in the Share Your Holidays campaign in a variety of ways. In addition to NGL’s $23,000 corporate sponsorship, employees volunteered for the Grand Finale Phone-a-Thon. The total impact from NGL’s donation provides 69,000 meals for people who are struggling with hunger in our community.

In addition to NGL’s corporate sponsorship, NGL sponsored “Mike’s Miracle Minute” during the Grand Finale on December 6. Donations received during Mike’s Miracle Minute were tripled.

“Food insecurity is a sad reality and one that anyone at any age can face. Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin does a phenomenal job helping to provide healthful foods to our communities. The staff and volunteers truly care about closing the hunger gap,” said Elizabeth Kirchstein, corporate giving administrator at NGL. “NGL and our employees are proud to give back and help others in need. When we unite together, we can end hunger.”

Employee support

NGL employees had the opportunity to volunteer during the Grand Finale Phone-A-Thon. There were 16 employees who volunteered for 1.25 hour shifts to answer pledge phone calls.

“It was such a wonderful experience. During Mike’s Miracle Minute donations were tripled. Multiple people called during our shift to ensure their pledge would be tripled. I was lucky enough to take a call where someone pledged $6,000,” said Reeannon Graber, NGL Senior Customer Service Representative. “The kindness people showed was beautiful. Acts of love like this are truly a one of a kind experience. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to volunteer my time with my coworkers. I’ll be spreading the holiday love and passing it forward.”

“The Share Your Holidays Phone-A-Thon was by far the most fun and heart touching holiday experience. Listening to how proud people are to share even their last dollar to help someone else should inspire us all,” said Amanda Stappert, NGL Senior Account Manager. “After volunteering I went home and immediately called to donate. It was the first time our family has donated to this specific charity. The kindness, compassion and true care that I saw yesterday is what the holidays are all about. I can’t wait until next year! Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in such a wonderful cause.”

“I had a blast and could have helped for the entire time! It was inspiring to listen to the callers thank me for volunteering. My part was easy; I know that we do not live in the best of times and especially around Christmas; money can be tight for some. It was inspiring to know that every dollar that was being donated was being doubled the entire day and tripled during Mike’s Miracle Minute,” said Angelita Alvarado, NGL Producer Administrator Supervisor. “Overall, the experience was a great way for me to spend a couple of hours giving back to the community. I appreciate the volunteer opportunities NGL provides and that we can use employee giving hours to volunteer during the workday.”

“I had an amazing eye opening time volunteering. One of the calls I answered was an elderly lady, on a fixed income, who shared with me, ‘I know it’s not much, but I do know it will help!’ That really impacted me and I was inspired by her generosity. She made a donation of $5 during Mike’s Miracle Minute so it provided 45 meals to people in need,” said Karen Chadwick, NGL Account Manager. “I enjoyed my time volunteering and taking people’s pledges. It was a privilege to volunteer and I would be honored to do it again.”
